
HONIARA, Solomon Islands – The Solomon Islands Immigration Division, in collaboration with national stakeholders and regional partners, has completed a two-day e-Passport Self-Assessment Workshop at the Heritage Park Hotel.
The workshop, held on October 30-31, 2025, was supported by the Papua New Guinea Immigration Citizenship Authority (PNG ICSA).The workshop aimed to conduct a comprehensive self-assessment of the Solomon Islands e-Passport system, identifying gaps and areas for improvement.
The assessment covered key thematic areas, including travel document issuance, security, and international cooperation.The workshop recommended reforming the existing e-Passport and biometric system to meet the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) international security and best practices.
The Solomon Islands government plans to prioritise the reform of the existing passport system, including introducing e-Passport legislation.The reform and upgrade of the e-Passport system are crucial for enhancing national and international security, protecting against global terrorist financing, and improving the security features of passports and travel documents.
The Solomon Islands government will use the findings of the self-assessment report to inform the reform and upgrade of the e-Passport system.The reform will help to improve the existing e-Passport infrastructure, tools, equipment, and passport legislation.
