Munda International Airport Border Management System goes live.
Last Friday 3rd July 2026, Munda International Airport, Western Province, the second International Airport to Solomon Islands goes live for border management system (BMS) for the first time. Solomon Islands Airlines international flight to Brisbane to Munda now facilitated using BMS cross border crossing. On Friday 3rd July 2026 about thirty-eight tourists were facilitated on arrival. Munda International Airport designated for tourists and low risks travellers. Solomon Islands Immigration supported by the Information Communication Technology Service Unit (ICTSU) team conducted successfully BMS assessment for Noro International Seaport and Munda International Airport during the month of May 2026. During the BMS assessment Noro International seaport and Munda International Airport was connected to facilitate passengers’ cross border processing of passengers arriving by air and sea. This would not be possible by the Joint Trilateral between Solomon Islands, Australia Department of Home Affairs and the Papua New Guinea Immigration Citizenship Authority. Australian Government under the Trilateral engagement funded Solomon Islands Immigration with SBD$18M in 2024 to develop Solomon Islands BMS.
This year on the 7th July 2026 the country will be celebrating 48th Anniversary and coincide with Solomon Islands Immigration co-celebrating its 1st year, BMS went on live for the first time on the 7th July 2025, the Honiara International Airport went live and processing cross border passengers at the airport.
Solomon Islands Immigration strategized to introduce an electronic visa system electronic online payment and working with ANZ Banking Group to provide supports and assistance for electronic online visa payment gateway. Solomon Islands Immigration and Department of Home Affairs confirmed the online testing payment successfully completed. Therefore, Ministry of Commerce, Industry, Labour and Immigration anticipating to go live with Immigration visas from 6th until 10th July 2026. The ongoing online testing allows online payment e-payment gateway is accurate and leave no space for mistakes.
The Ministry Permanent Secretary, Mr Riley Mesepitu has confirmed that Immigration visa system has transformed and stream line to thirty-four (34) categories or subclasses of visas where available online. The visa reform aligns to the past and present governments to strengthen border security and including the GREAT Coalition vision to protect territorial sovereignty.
